What is HP instant ink? – Save Money with HP Instant Ink Printers

Printer ink is expensive. In fact, it’s more costly per drop than vintage champagne or Chanel No.5 perfume. A bottle of Dom Perignon Vintage Champagne costs £1,417.50. If you compare printer ink and champagne cost, printer ink costs around £1.89 per millilitre or £1,890 per litre.

While branded printer inks are expensive, that’s not the case anymore, thanks to HP Instant Ink. Want to know more about what HP Instant Ink is and how it works?

Here is a breakdown of what HP Instant Ink is and how to get it.

What is HP Instant Ink?

HP Instant Ink is a subscription program for your printer cartridges. As a customer, HP will send new genuine HP ink cartridges when your current cartridges run out. Today, one in five people in the UK are printing more than they were before the COVID-19 pandemic. Over a quarter of the people are using their printer daily, and half are printing weekly.

To ensure your work or schedule is not interrupted, get HP Instant Ink. Every time your cartridges run low on ink levels, your printer will send the data to HP. When they receive your request, they will send new cartridges to your home or office.

While sending new cartridges to your home or office, HP will give you ways to return your used cartridges for recycling. Over 350 million printer cartridges are usually disposed of in landfill worldwide every year.

This is dangerous because the plastic contained within the cartridge casing takes up to 1,000 years to decompose. If you send your used printer cartridges to HP for recycling, you can prevent them from ending up in incinerators, rubbish dumps and landfill.

How Do I Sign-Up for HP Instant Ink?

Before signing up, make sure you’ve the following:

  • A HP printer compatible with the HP Instant Ink program
  • A stable internet connection for your printer
  • A valid payment method – direct debit, PayPal, credit card or HP Instant Ink prepaid card

Head over to the HP Instant Ink webpage and select a suitable plan. HP offers five plans, with the cheapest going for £0.99. You’ll receive printer ink that allows you to print up to 15 pages a month with this plan. If you print less than 15 pages every month, HP will enable you to roll over up to 3X the number of pages in your plan.

Other HP Instant Ink plans are as follows:

  • 50 pages/month – £1.99
  • 100 pages/month – £3.49

To sign up, select a suitable plan that meets your printing needs. We recommend starting with the £0.99 plan. Click “Get Started,” and on the next page, enter your printer’s model name. For example, HP LaserJet M209dw. The name is on the front of your printer.

Select “Continue” to start subscription enrolment and printer setup. If the model listed on HP is not your printer, click “Change Printer” to search for your printer model again. Next, install the HP Smart app on your smartphone.

The app is compatible with iOS, Android and Windows devices. Get the HP Smart App below:

Launch the app, tap the “+” to add your printer. Alternatively, you can select the HP Instant Ink on the app’s home screen. Follow the instructions in the app to register for an account, and you’ll receive your free welcome kit. The welcome pack includes one printer ink for your printer.

Is HP Instant Ink Worth It?

Yes, HP Instant Ink is totally worth it. First, HP ships the printer ink cartridges or toner at no extra cost. If purchasing the ink cartridges or toners from a third-party retailer, it’s expensive. A colour cartridge goes for £34.99 and will last up to 330 prints. With HP Instant Ink plans, you get 15 prints a month for £0.99. This is an excellent plan if you’re not a regular printer.

Second, HP Instant Ink allows you to enjoy total flexibility. You can change your plan or cancel anytime. If you do not use all your pages, HP will automatically roll over to the next month. In fact, they allow up to 3X the number of prints in your plan.

Lastly, you get to save money. With HP Instant Ink, you’ll never run out of printer ink. The program saves you 70% on ink and 50% on toner. Also, when you sign up for HP Instant Ink, you’re not paying for the cartridges. You are paying for the number of pages you print every month. For example, if you choose the £0.99 plan, you’re paying for 15 pages.

If you only use genuine HP printer cartridges and toner and not third party cartridges, you extend the life of your printer. In the UK, a third of printer owners are not using compatible printer cartridges. As such, they will invalidate their printer warranty or even damage it.
